Getting Ready For Yoga
The great thing about yoga is that you do not need a lot of equipment and accessories in order to do a yoga session. However, there are a number of equipment and accessories available that can help you do yoga.
Yoga accessories includes yoga mats, yoga gear, yoga CDs and DVDs and yoga books. As none of this is really essential, you can choose which yoga accessories you would like to purchase.
Yoga accessories are available in health food shops, meditation shops, new age shops and over the internet. You can even find yoga accessories in department stores and supermarkets. They used to be quite hard to find, but as yoga has increased in popularity so has the availability of yoga accessories.Yoga MatsYoga mats are generally a very thin mat. They are used in order to make the ground or floor more comfortable for sitting and lying yoga moves. A mat is a good investment and it may be one of the first yoga accessories you wish to purchase. There are many different types of yoga exercise mats and rugs, including:- Extra thick yoga mats;
- Yoga towels (may be skid less);
- Extra long yoga mats;
- Yoga rugs;
- Cotton mats and covers;
- Mat rolls;
- Yoga blankets;
- Mat bags;
- Aero mats.
Prices range for yoga mats and rugs. However, there are many products available at very cheap prices. A yoga mat or blanket can cost at little as $10.00. More expensive versions can be around $50 to $60. If you do not wish to purchase a yoga mat, then a blanket from home will do the same job.Yoga Workout GearThere are a number of other products that help with the comfort and performance of yoga poses. Yoga workout gear includes:- Yoga blocks;
- Yoga straps;
- Bolsters;
- Balls;
- Sandbags;
- Zabutons;
- Wedges;
- Wood blocks;
- Zafus.
Videos and DVDsVideos and DVDs are very popular as you can see exactly how to do the yoga postures by watching somebody else do them. DVDs are one of the best ways to learn yoga postures; because you can see by watching the video if you are doing it right.
It is also easier to do yoga postures while watching the television than it is to try and do them while reading a book. There are many yoga videos and DVDs available. Prices range from $15 to $100. You can buy yoga DVDs from video stores, department stores, yoga shops and health food stores.Yoga ClothingThere is no need to buy special clothing for yoga, but you may like to consider some of the yoga clothing products available if you feel you want something else to wear for your yoga sessions. Yoga clothing gear includes:- Malaika Padma are special cotton yoga shorts. They have an elasticated waistband and wide cotton cuffs. They are designed to stay close to the skin, but still be loose enough to feel the body's movements. Malaika Padma are used as yoga clothing for men and women.
- Women's yoga clothing also includes other types of shorts. Women's yoga shorts are usually short and fairly loose, but there are lycra and skin-tight products available.
- There are also a number of women's yoga pants available. These include draw-string pants, which are fairly loose around the body and Lycra pants, which are skin-tight.
- Yoga t-shirts for women include tight-fitting t-shirts and sing lets. They also include fairly loose t-shirts that allow for freedom of movement, without getting in the way of poses.
- There is a wide range of men's yoga clothing available. Short lengths range from above to knees to very high up in the thigh. You can find Lycra shorts, shorts that are close to the skin and loose shorts. Pants are also available. Most pants are three-quarters in length.
