Impact of Yoga and Menopause on Women

For many women yoga and menopause relief go hand in hand. The breathing techniques that are a part of the practice of yoga have been found to reduce the incidence of hot flashes in menopausal women and the regimen overall has a balancing effect on the body.

Yoga can help control migraine headaches and will lessen the pain of those suffering with osteoporosis while helping them to stay fit with low impact exercises that pose less danger to their fragile bones. Given the gentle nature of the exercises, yoga is an appropriate fitness routine well into old age.

Yoga's Popularity Makes It Accessible to Busy Women

Many people say they cannot take up yoga because they have to have special clothing. That simply isn't true. While catalogs and stores carry lines of women's yoga tops and women's yoga pants, almost all of the positions can be achieved while wearing any loose, comfortable clothing including your pajamas.

One of the most exciting developments in bringing yoga into the lives of more women is the availability of complete, structured routines on VHS tape and in DVD format. This technology allows women to use even the strangest hours of the day to stretch their bodies and quiet their minds. While most yoga instructors agree that to achieve perfect positioning new students need guided assistance, that isn't possible for everyone and the available tapes and DVDs are an excellent solution.

Once a new student has learned some yoga basics they will understand that many of the breathing and stretching techniques can actually be performed during a few spare minutes, even at work, while wearing normal, "every day" apparel. This means the stress relieving benefits of yoga are not limited to a set practice time but become an integrated part of the individual's life.

Additionally, it is not uncommon for groups of working women to arrange for a yoga instructor to come into the work place and take them through a routine during their lunch or coffee break. Yoga sessions are available at all kinds of fitness, health, and community centers throughout the day and on the weekends. Many mothers go to yoga while their children are in school or at day care. For mothers with small children some exercise facilities even offer baby sitting services.

While it may take a little doing to find the place and the session that best fits your schedule, the increasing popularity of yoga for health and fitness means sessions are readily available. To become a "yoga woman" you do not need special yoga apparels for women just a commitment to find the time to do something for yourself.
