Make Back Troubles Back Off -With Yoga

Back pain is the most common medical complaint by people who are in the transition age that is 35-45 years. But most of these pains resolve in a couple of weeks of proper treatment. Thanks to the contribution of yoga for back pain, many of them who suffered are back with confidence. Before we take a look into yoga exercises for low back pain, let's understand its common causes.

What Are Some Causes For Back Aches?

While there are a host of causes for back pain to bother you, following are the most common that see you visiting a doctor's office frequently.
Overuse or Under Use of the Back
The first major cause of back pain is the over use of back muscle. Athletes and sportsmen stress their back a little too high because of their obsession with perfection. Women are more prone to having lower back pain than men. Basket ball and tennis players are at increased risk because of over use in hyper extension of back muscle. Under use by people with sedentary lifestyle, like those who have to sit although the day for their professions, will also suffer lower back pain.
Herniated disc
Back pain due to herniated disc is mainly because of the disc bulging out and pressurizing the sciatic nerve. The pain radiates out into lower back and thighs.
Spinal steno sis
Steno sis in plain English means narrowing of some bodily canal and when applied to spinal cord, it means the narrowing of the spinal cord usually due to over growth of the bone tissue. This pains the nerves that pass through and branch out of the spinal cord. When it is not nerves which are under pressure, it is the spinal cord itself, which gets squeezed.
Spinal tumor or spine tumor
Spinal tumor occurs from the spinal column or any of its regions extending from cervical (neck area) to lumbosacral (lower back).

How Does Yoga Help In Alleviating These Back Aches? (Yoga for back pain)

The basic strength of yoga lies in its stretching of muscles and joints and then holding it in position combined with scientific breathing technique. The targeted yoga exercises for low back pain works systematically on the lumbosacral region. Stretching joints and muscles to anatomical limits augments very well to compliment the natural physiological movements. This, coupled with the relaxing breathing techniques reduces strain on muscles and joints, occasionally helping repositioning of tendons and muscle fibers. For this reason, yoga for low back pain management is occupying the center, especially in the absence of effective treatment options.

Typical Yoga Poses

Some typical yoga poses that help you overcome this problem are as follows
Corpse Pose
Shava asana (corpse) marks the end of all workouts including yoga. You need to lie down on your back on a carpet with feet and palms comfortably away from the body. Starting from toes, concentrate on each organ of body in order to relax fully. Let your breaths calm down automatically. Relax in this position for 10-15 minutes.
Cat Stretch
This is one yoga exercise for back pain that sooths even as you do it. Cat stretch is a part of Chaturangasana, so it can't be done in exclusivity. Rest on knees and palms just below shoulders (4 limbs). Breathe a cycle, holding your spine as straight as possible and looking forward. Crouch inwards trying to round the spine and attempting to gaze at navel. Exhale while doing this and take a couple of breaths here. Come back to original position inhaling. Now go forward to the cow stretch from here, by dropping the back and lifting head as much as possible. Return to the original position after a couple of breaths while exhaling.
